...The Cults...
"What do you mean, cults?" I asked Aida quietly. Aida had pulled me to the side after Dessen had announced he was going to go fishing. We watched him swipe his paw and mouth repetitively into the water, and constantly miss a fish.
"Well..." Aida began slowly. "I'm not sure if it's true, since I'm not involved in them, but I've heard rumors of there being two cults. One for both religions -- the Tachi cult and the Kuna cult."
"But... Why?" I asked quietly.
"Because the religions can't get along in the same pack. Not everyone who is a Tachi and Kuna believer are in the cults, like me, but I suspect some of them are. I hear that there's a leader in the cults, too. I've always pondered who in the pack could be the leader to the two cults..." Aida said curiously.
"What do they do? In the cults, I mean?" I continued to beg for information.
"They fight each other, mostly. They sabotage things that each other consider sacred, or simply cause chaos. I'm sure they attack and jump each other too, in secret. I haven't heard anything. It rarely gets back to the King and Queen, if it does happen. I suspect that they plot constantly about how to hurt each other and to drive the other religions out of the pack." Aida went quiet for a moment before continuing. "I've heard that the cults occasionally try to kidnap wolves from the opposite religion and try to convince them to switch religions. Sometimes, it works. I've known those who have switched. I wonder if that's why..."
"Do they attack people outside of the cults?"
Aida shrugged. "I assume so. They're trying to hurt the other religion, not necessarily the other cult. In fact, attacking someone of the opposite religion who isn't in the cult would be easier -- wouldn't it? I would think so."
I stared at Aida curiously before asking, "How do you get in a cult?"
Aida gave me a slight glare before frowning. "Why...?" She pestered. Instead of pushing more, she shrugged. "I'm not sure. I suppose you just have to discover who is a member over time and try to wiggle yourself in. I've also heard that joining a cult involves some sort of initiation and test on loyalty. I don't know what the initiation would be, however." Aida leaned forward and smirked. "If you ever join a cult, tell me who the leader is will you? I'm curious."
Aida visibly shuddered. "God, I sound like I am in the Tachi cult by talking about this. We should stop discussing this. You'll learn more about the cults over time, I'm sure. Trust me. But unless you want to be hunted down by either of the cults and murdered, I suggest that you never tell this to any of the elites or any members that follow the King and Queen. If the King or Queen ever heard... it would be bad. I think the cults both have a silent oath to not tell about each other to the royalty."
"Got one!" Dessen shouted from the river. He dangled a fish in his mouth proudly and walked back over to the pair.
"Murderer," Aida mumbled softly and stood up. "Well, shall we go on?"
