...Religion Information...
"So like we said, two religions." Dessen said as he was walking. He was walking in a circle, almost as if he was chasing his own tail. "This island that we are on is where both of the religions, the Kuna religion and the Tachi religion, pray."
"This is mine," Aida called from behind me. I turned around to stare at her pressing her nose against a tree. "This is the Grandmother Oak, but I call her the Grandmother Tree." She said with a joyous smile.
"Your tree?" I asked curiously, stepping over to the Grandmother Oak. "What do you mean your tree?"
"Oh..." Aida shook her head. "I mean, my religion's tree. It's our shrine. I belong to the Tachi religion. You heard Dessen call me that at the beginning, remember?" Aida asked. I nodded. "I called him a Kuna, which is his religion." She paused and grinned sheepishly before continuing. "Actually I didn't call him a Kuna, I told him to go sacrifice himself."
Dessen scowled at Aida and glanced over at me with a slight smile. "Come here and look at the Kuna shrine." I stepped over to him and glanced down at a pool of water in front of me. My reflection stared back up at me. "This is the Nocturna pool. It's our main shrine, and it's for our goddess who's name is also Nocturna. We also respect the moon. In the Kuna religion, we dedicate ourselves to our goddess. In our religion, we believe in reincarnation. Reincarnation is when after death we are reborn in another body. In addition, unlike the Tachi religion, we see it as acceptable to mate with our siblings." Aida shuddered, but Dessen continued. "Our ceremonies --"
"Let's talk about the ceremonies after we talk about the religions. Alright?" Aida cut him off with a suggestion, obviously slightly disturbed by the fact that those who believe in the Kuna religion can mate with their siblings.
Dessen shrugged and gestured over to Aida. "Go listen about the Tachi's a bit while I pray to my goddess." Dessen said. I glanced back at him for a moment to see himself lowering his head down to the pool of water. He pressed his nose into the water and closed his eyes in silence. I quietly snuck back over to Aida to listen to what she had to say.
"As I was saying earlier," Aida talked softer out of respect for Dessen. She pressed her nose against the bark of the tree and gestured around her. "This is the Grandmother tree. For the Tachi religion, this is our shrine. We don't have a specific goddess, like the Kuna wolves, but we do believe in our spirits and ancestors. As a Tachi, we respect nature more. We cherish every animal, plant, and rock that lives with us." Aida smiled. "In fact, we try to resist eating meat as much. As for mating, we believe in free mating. It's perfectly acceptable to love and be with more than one person, as long as your current mate consents to it." Aida said with a nod.
"How does that work...?" I asked curiously.
"Well," Aida began with a shrug. "It's second nature to me. If I were to mate with a brute and also fall in love with another male, I would ask my first mate if it was alright. After all, I wouldn't want to mate with another man that my current mate despised."
"Disgusting, isn't it?" Dessen said, walking over to us. I made no comment to either.
Aida scowled at Dessen and shook her head. "Let's tell you a bit about the ceremonies now. How does that sound?"
